The 20 members of the City of Exeter Pipes
and Drums, all from Devon, have taken part in other
tattoos but never a mainly Scottish event.
Only the best bands in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK have
been invited to take part in the ceremony, which is led by one
of the world's top pipers Major Gavin Stoddard.
Maj Stoddard has been responsible for arranging the music for a
number of high-profile events, including the Queen Mother's
funeral.
Pipe Major Colin Opie, a member of the
band for 10 years, said the musicians were honoured to be
asked to take part: "The organisers originally asked us to
promote the tattoo on our website, which is very active,
and then when we asked they invited us to join in," said
Mr Opie, an electronic engineer from Torquay, whose mother
is Scottish.
"I believe we are the only South West band taking part and
those from other bands are joining us."
