On August 25th the "Memorial Museum
Passchendaele 1917" in Zonnebeke, Belgium, inaugurated the
first monument ever for all Scots who fought during the Great
War. We were there.
Ready, steady ...
After much preparation, including a significant
number of emails and phone calls to/from the organisers of
this unique event, the band were ready for the off. This
was certainly to be a very prestigious and memorable
occasion for us. The Express and Echo newspaper decided
such an endeavour by a local band should receive some
press, and on the 6th July 2007 printed an article about the band and the
event.
Go...
The event was all it promised to be, and an
unforgettable privilege and honour for all the players who
took part. We were the invited band to play at a VIP
service for senior Military personnel at Tyne Cot Cemetry,
and another VIP service at the Menin Gate. We were also
invited to play a second evening here. All of that on top
of the Massed Band events. It was not without incident
however, as the story unfolds.
